The United States Mint today announced new products to its numismatic portfolio, adding three new America the Beautiful Quarters sets, bringing the annual total for quarter-only type sets to five.
The sets feature 25-cent pieces from the America the Beautiful Quarters™ Program, which will honor 56 different national parks and sites between 2010 – 2021 from every state, U.S. territory and the District of Columbia.
The products fill a hole many coin collectors will appreciate, as they add:
- America the Beautiful Quarters Three-Coin Set
- America the Beautiful Quarters Uncirculated Coin Set
- America the Beautiful Quarters Circulating Coin Set
The three new sets will be on sale through the Mint’s Online Subscription Program beginning at noon Eastern Time on May 19, 2010. Customers at that time can also call the Mint directly at 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468).
Three-Coin Set
The America the Beautiful Quarters Three-Coin Set price is $13.95. It includes two uncirculated quarters — one struck from Denver and one from Philadelphia, and a proof minted at San Francisco. This product is based on quarter design, so there will be five different per year. 2010 sets include one each for the:
- Hot Springs National Park Quarter
- Yellowstone National Park Quarter
- Yosemite National Park Quarter
- Grand Canyon National Park Quarter
- Mount Hood National Forest Site Quarter
The United States Mint describes proof coins as:
Extraordinarily brilliant, with sharp relief and a mirror-like background. Their frosted, sculpted foregrounds give them a special cameo effect. Proof blanks are specially treated, polished and cleaned to ensure high quality strikes. The blanks are then fed into presses fitted with specially polished dies and struck at least twice to ensure sharp relief.
The production of uncirculated coins for collectors is similar to the proof process, with each hand-loaded into a coining press, struck multiple times on special blanks (burnished), and special care taken in their handling and packaging.
Uncirculated Coin Set
The America the Beautiful Quarters Uncirculated Coin Set price is $21.95. This annual set features all the quarters for a given year. There are ten in total, and each is in uncirculated. Five will originate from Denver and five from Philadelphia.
Circulating Coin Set
The America the Beautiful Quarters Circulating Coin Set price is $9.95. This annual product also features all the quarters for a designated year, ten in total, with five circulating-quality coins from Philadelphia and five from Denver.
Instead of having to search change for specific strikes and also find them by each Mint facility, which can be difficult given how the Federal Reserve distributes coinage, the public can now order each year’s quarters directly from the Mint.
Current Sets
The three new products add to the Mint’s:
- America the Beautiful Quarters Proof Set, which launched Thursday, May 13, and the
- America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set, which will be available May 27, 2010.
The Mint in its press announcement regarding the new products reminded customers that prices may change during a subscription, and:
To ensure uninterrupted delivery of the products in their subscription(s), customers should keep their credit card information current. The United States Mint will make every effort to ensure product availability, but cannot guarantee it, especially in cases of limited mintages. The United States Mint reserves the right to discontinue any subscription program at any time at its discretion. Customers may cancel their subscription orders at any time.
All the Mint products within its subscription service are also available for individual ordering directly from the Mint. At this time, the Mint has not indicated whether this will be the case for the three new products, and if so, when they will be available for direct order.
