Kisatchie America the Beautiful Quarter

The second United States Mint America the Beautiful Quarters™ Program coin issued in 2015 will be the 2015 Kisatchie America the Beautiful Quarter. It is the twenty-seventh coin in the program which debuted in 2010 and runs through 2021.

Final designs for the Kisatchie quarter are not yet known, nor will they be for several years. If the Mint follows its normal procedure, sometime in early 2014, design candidates will be issued to the organizations and individuals responsible for commenting on the designs at which time the public will also get its first glimpse of possible designs. Then, after a final selection has been made, the Mint will unveil that design sometime before the coin is actually released.

The Kisatchie America the Beautiful Quarter will be preceded in 2015 by one honoring the Homestead National Monument of America in Nebraska. It will be followed by strikes created for the Blue Ridge Parkway of North Carolina, Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge of Delaware and Saratoga National Historical Park of New York.

Kisatchie National Forest in Louisiana

Designated in 1930 by President Herbert Hoover, Kisatchie National Forest of Louisiana contains over 600,000 acres of old growth pine and bald cypress groves.

With a headquarters in Pineville, Louisiana, the forest boasts dozens of recreational sites along with over 100 miles of trails for hiking, biking, horseback riding, etc. Visitors are also able to enjoy activities like camping, swimming, hunting and even All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) riding within the park boundaries.

Included in the forest are five separate districts; Calcasieu, Caney, Catahoula, Kisatchie and Winn with land located in seven different parishes of the state.

Of interest, the National Forest Service sometimes completes prescribed burns of sections of the forest.
