The US Mint will release the 6th through 10th coins in its America the Beautiful Quarter Program beginning in 2011.
2011 America the Beautiful Quarter Design Candidates
The 2011 quarter candidate designs were recently reviewed by various parties, including US Mint officials, the Commission of Fine Arts (CFA), and the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC). Criteria for the designs, which are featured on each coin’s reverse (tails) side, states they must be emblematic and recognizable of the chosen sites. No maps, logos, or head-and-shoulders portrait of a person is allowed.
Using this criteria and coinage experience, the US Mint and its selected artists created several proposals for each site. Line art images of these by order of a site’s upcoming release in 2011 follow.

The America the Beautiful Quarter Program pays tribute to 56 US National Sites in the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories. The series started in 2010 with the release of five new circulating commemorative quarters per year, each honoring a national park or national site, and runs until 2021.
The obverse, or heads side, of each quarter continues to feature George Washington’s portrait, as it has done since 1932. The reverse of each coin depicts an image of one of the chosen national sites. The order the sites are honored was determined by the order in which the federal government took control of a site.
